my friend and neighbor from when I was in high school, lisa thompson teaches second graders in south florida. her class sent flat stanley up north (thats what people in southern michigan call northern michigan) to visit me for a week.
we had a great visit. below are some of the places stanley visited on his trip to northern michigan. he is leaving tomorrow. i think he might be going to hawaii next to visit his friend blue dog.

its been cold up in northern michigan...but not as bad as the east coast and midwest. the storm that hit everyone slid 200 miles to the south of here. no snow at all.
the lake is icy and the sunset when you do get to see it is pretty awesome.

who is pete burks? pete burks died in iraq 3 years ago. i did not know pete personally.

i only got to know him after he died. his father is a good friend of mine.

when i was a kid my parents got me the annual from the encyclopedia that we had in the house. i loved when it came in the mail every year. i make a book every year of the pictures i like the best. i narrowed it down to 200 images.

i have decided to make a career change and help my friend barbara with her handbag business. barbara's company is called b.may bags. she makes handbags by hand in northern michigan, which is where i will be moving to. the bags are made in petoskey, michigan in what is called the "baglab". see below for an example of her bags and what the baglab looks like in the summer and winter (taken today). i will miss california, but that's why they have jets.
